Embarba: "I like that the fans are demanding"
The winger is celebrating a return to the starting lineup
After a series of games in which he had featured on the bench, Adrià Embarba was back in the starting lineup for RCD Espanyol's game against RCD Mallorca. The winger talked to the media during the international break to comment on his return to the first XI, and his targets for the remainder of the LaLiga campaign.
"It's true that it's been an inconsistent season for me personally. I started the LaLiga season well, but I didn't get the numbers that I wanted, and so I dropped out of the starting lineup. I understand the demands of the fans, because I'm the first to be demanding of myself. They ask for better performances from me, because they know that I can give much more. It is understandable and acceptable," he explained.
"What I have to do is work hard , train as well as possible and turn the situation around, as I did in the last game. I want to get to the end of the season in the best form possible."
Embarba was applauded off when he was substituted in the second half against Mallorca, and he told the media that "I was quite happy in terms of how I felt and how the group felt, because we needed a victory. It was an important game. I participated a lot, I felt comfortable and I'm in good physical and mental shape. I have worked hard to achieve this. I was rewarded by the fans when I was taken off."
"Every player wants to feel loved and that is how I feel here. I like that they demand more from me when I am not doing well, and that they thank me when I am."
"If I didn't play or wasn't a starter, then it was because the coach believed that somebody else was the best option, and that he had other players in better form than I was. I've waited for my moment like a professional, and hopefully I can continue to help the team for the rest of the season."
Finally, questioned about Espanyol's trajectory and aspirations for the remaining nine games, Embarba said that: "Mathematically, the objective of staying up has not been achieved, but a big step has been taken. We have nine games left, which are nine finals. The team can fight for everything and we'll go for 27 points. We'll start with the match against Real Sociedad in San Sebastián and take things game by game. We're capable of achieving something beautiful."
