Diego Martínez appointed as RCD Espanyol coach
The coach comes in for the club on a two-year deal
Diego Martínez has been appointed as RCD Espanyol coach for the next two seasons, through to June 30th, 2024.
The Spanish coach, born in Vigo in 1980, played at youth level for Celta Vigo, before beginning his coaching career at Imperio Albolote and Arenas de Armilla. He then took over at Motril CF (2007-2009), achieving great success. Martínez was then given a position in the Methodology Department at Sevilla FC and coached Sevilla FC C, whom he led to glory in the Copa de Campeones, and was subsequently incorporated into the coaching staff for the first team. In his time at Sevilla FC, he also took the B team to the Segunda División.
After a brief spell at Osasuna, the coach was handed the reins at Granada CF. In Andalusia, he achieved promotion to LaLiga, qualification for the Europa League, a quarter final place in that competition (losing to Manchester United), and two excellent top flight finishes. He would also take the team to the semifinals and quarter finals of the Copa del Rey.
Martínez will be presented this Tuesday at 1pm, at the Auditorio Juan Segura Palomares of the RCDE Stadium. A press conference will be held both in person and online.
Welcome to RCD Espanyol, #DiegoMartínezPerico!
