Diego López: "I think the end of the season is going to be good"
The goalkeeper details his fitness ahead of the game against Real Sociedad
Diego López talked to the media this Tuesday, just under a week away from RCD Espanyol's fixture against Real Sociedad in San Sebastian. The goalkeeper is a doubt for the contest due to his recent injury problems, and he gave an update on his condition.
"I'm going to try to be available. I'm recovering and we are doing our best every day to get better and to be able to feature in that game. As I said, we've been working on my recovery since the last game, we're going to try and we hope that we can be there," he explained.
Should he not make it to full fitness in time, the veteran could be replaced by either Oier Olazabal or Joan Garcia, and he gave his backing to both goalkeepers.
"I see Oier and Joan doing very well. They are very professional and add to the team in every way. Their effort and perseverance is very important. I have lived what Joan is experiencing and I know what he might be feeling. Both Oier and I are trying to guide him so that he can be strong. I think he will be a great goalkeeper, and any problems are normal when you are coming through. He needs time , trust and tranquility," he asserted.
As for the possibility of the 40 year old renewing his contract for another season, he stated that this was not his focus at the present time.
"I don't know. Now I have my mind set on this season, on recovering, on finishing the campaign as well as possible and helping the team. I've already said that I would like to continue at Espanyol, but we'll see what happens. We will take things calmly and whatever the club decides will be fine. I will assimilate and respect whatever choice is made."
"The most important thing is that there are nine games left and many very important points at stake for us. We will have to be very motivated to be able to have a great end to the season. Now the matter is on standby, I'm not in a hurry and it needs time. We'll wait until the end of the season."
"I think the end of the season is going to be good. We have to keep picking up points to be as high up as possible, because there is still a lot at stake," he concluded.
