Catoira: " Our intention is to take another step up on a sporting level"
The new Sporting Director is presented to the media
Domingo Catoira has been promoted to the position of Sporting Director of RCD Espanyol, in a reshuffle of the club's Sports Structure announced this past Friday.
Upon his change of role, the erstwhile Technical Secretary has begun work on redesigning the sporting side of the club, and he explained his goals in a press conference accompanied by RCD Espanyol CEO, Mao Ye.
"I want to continue contributing to this great club, which has a soul and must continue to grow in order to be a benchmark in Spanish football," he told the press.
“We have clear steps to take and we have to do these right, which is the most important thing. We want to revitalise the essence of this club and hopefully we can excite the fans at the same time. Our intention is to take another step up on a sporting level."
He has also commented on what will be the criteria for the appointment of a new first team coach, saying that “we are clear about the profile for which we are looking. Hopefully he can be with us as soon as possible and is capable of exciting the fans, that he understands the essence of the club and amplifies it. We shouldn't be in a hurry -we should get it right. The coach has to be a major participant and give us security in the work that we have planned."
CEO Mao Ye stated that President Chen Yansheng "was very clear about the decisions and the time in which to make them."
"We understand that these are the best decisions in order to start a new project right now, a new stage for the club. We have to learn from the mistakes of the past, but we cannot forget the sacrifice and the struggle that we have had to face these last two years. From now on we have to focus on a new season and work at 120 percent so that RCD Espanyol continue to grow, and in this new project there is a key piece of the puzzle with a great professional career behind him. That is why we have taken this step forward with Domingo Catoira."
