Calero: "In the dressing room there is excitement and optimism"
The centre back talks to the press
Fernando Calero had a notable performance against Getafe this past weekend, and the defender spoke about this and more in a midweek press conference at the Ciudad Deportiva Dani Jarque.
“I've had several injuries and I've always had to play with one problem or another, but against Getafe I felt perfect," he revealed.
"I've had the bad luck that, when I was able to play before, I've got injured or not been fully fit. I work hard every day in order to help the team, any way that I can."
The victory on Matchday 27 was an important one for the side, and has boosted morale in the squad.
“In the dressing room there is excitement and optimism. We are having a good season, although the result against Villarreal was a very tough dip. We were close to beating FC Barcelona and Sevilla. The only thing that we are looking at now is the next game," said Calero.
That contest takes place on Saturday, against Levante, whom he describes as “a great team."
"They are very tough opponents. At the RCDE Stadium they made things very difficult for us, so we have to go there very focused. We've been working on the mistakes we've made during recent games so that they don't happen again."
Asked about the difference in performance provided by Espanyol at home and away, the center back acknowledged that it is one of the clear pending issues to address.
“We must reset with that. I don't know whether we need to believe in it more or be braver. I don't know how to put it, but we want to be a tough side away from home."
