Angel Gomez, ratified as sports director
Until now the technical secretary of the club, who had held the sports management on an interim basis, will sign for the next three seasons
RCD Espanyol reports that the club's Board of Directors has ratified Angel Gomez Ruiz as head of the Sports Area officially by appointing him sports director of the entity. Thus, the hitherto technical secretary Oscar Perarnau replace functions coming in and putting on an interim basis since the resignation of former head of maximum sports club.
With this decision, the club has entrusted for this position a person with a trajectory in RCD Espanyol, who knows in detail the operation of the institution and Rastar’s Group project led by the president Chen Yansheng. The new sports director will sign a contract until June 30, 2019.
Angel Gomez joined Espanyol in 2011 as head of the South American market within the Sports Area. On December 2012, he became technical secretary of the club, taking responsibility for coordinating all the work of scouting and market analysis of professional football entity. Apart from training in sports management, Angel Gomez is UEFA PRO coach, the highest degree for a technician sport. Gomez also has a degree in Psychology and specialized in the sports branch of this discipline.
Angel Gomez, 39, was born in Seville, but grew between Frankfurt and Barcelona. As a player goes through several historic Catalan football clubs like Cornellà, Santboià, Manlleu, Balaguer, the Santfeliuenc or Europa. Precisely at the club de Gracia he is where he took his first steps into the dugout and offices. In the 'escapolada' organization he was also coordinator of youth football and got the best teams of each stage play in Division of Honor, the showpiece of Catalan youth football.
In 2010 he joined Barcelona of Guayaquil (Ecuador) as sports director, where he struggled to qualify for the Copa Libertadores as coach Benito Floro. A year later, Gomez moved to Independent Quito to carry out the same task and lead the youth to make state champion. Now, after a long journey in the world of football and a track record of more than 5 years in the white and blue club, he gets the opportunity to take ultimate responsibility sport at the executive level of RCD Espanyol of Barcelona.
The new athletic director will attend the media accredited by the club on Monday at 12:00 hours at a press conference in the Auditorium of the RCDE Stadium. Gomez will appear accompanied by the CEO of the company, Robert Ramon, to jointly present the renovated sports project and the working methods of the new white and blue Sports Area.
After the presentation of Angel Gomez, Ramon Robert will lead a press conference to evaluate the last season and to explain the future forecast for the next year.
