Gerard and Marco Asensio scored twice to defeat Eibar in the last match of the season
Espanyol said goodbye to the season with an easy victory against Eibar in a mach where Gerard and Marco Asensio scored twice to give the white and blue team the three points. Espanyol wanted a victory for their supporters and Galca’s players didn’t fail in the last match of the season.
Eibar started the match with two good opportunities. First was Pau who saved the first goal after a far shot from Keko. A few minutes after was Borja who was close with a cross volley that went out. The visitors started very well but Espanyol was more effective. Gerard, who scored his last goal against Sporting de Gijón, took profit of a great pass by Víctor Sánchez to add the first goal for Espanyol. Again, Eibar tried to draw the match but Pau saved another good chance of Keko.
The white and blue team was feeling comfortable as the match advanced. Hernán had a good opportunity that Irureta saved. The goalkeeper, however, received his second goal of the afternoon after a good combination between Gerard and Marco Asensio, who scored for Espanyol. Before the half time, Hernán tried was close to scoring but Irureta, again, was lucky to avoid it. Espanyol finished the first half playing very well and the crowd was happy not to suffer for the first time in the season.
Eibar started very well the second half and the forced Pau to do two good saves. However, Espanyol’s goalkeeper couldn’t do anything in a penalty shot by Borja. The white and blue team started to be in trouble and it seemed that Eibar could have chances to draw the match. Fortunately, Marco Asensio appeared in a crucial moment and after a good pass from Víctor Sánchez he scored Espanyol’s third goal. A few minutes after Gerard received a great pass from Asensio to score the fourth goal of the afternoon. Eibar’s last goal was anecdotal.
Espanyol was able to finish the season with a comfortable victory over Eibar and give a good present to their supporters.
