3-0: Victory at last!
Espanyol obtain their first victory of the season at the RCDE Stadium thanks to their triumph against Leganés
Five minutes were enough for Espanyol to secure the first victory of the season at home. After a very discreet first half, the blue-and-white team defeated a disciplined Leganés thanks to the goals of two of his most inspired players this season: Gerard Moreno and Pablo Piatti. The players of Quique Sánchez Flores had enough to overcome their adversary and end up adding the first three points of the season as local. Piatti, in the final stretch of the match, sentenced to reach the third.
Quique Sánchez Flores opted to give continuity to the block that defeated a week ago in Vitoria to Alavés with the only forced change of Leo Baptistao by Hernán Pérez that also supposed that José Antonio Reyes happened to occupy the right side of the attack. The coach decided to continue with Jurado in the double pivot who he said in the preview that he was offering a very good version in that position. The coach also said at his press conference that it was important to get into the game at a high pace, but the reality was that the team was not too fortunate at the start and had a hard time deploying in front of an orderly Leganés, one of the best visitors of the category and that away from home can boast of solvency.
Jurado, especially, and Reyes risked with vertical passes, but did not connect with the strikers. The best chance came, as in the last days, in a strategy play that topped Gerard rout. Espanyol was encouraged and began to combine with a little more criteria but without excessive arrival. The pace of the premises was slowed by the misfortune: shortly before the half hour of game Serantes had to leave the field injured. Quique Sánchez Flores’ boys followed without having much continuity in their game and only threatened in some individual action carried out by Piatti.
However, after the break, in just over five minutes more things happened that almost in the first half. Sánchez Flores returned to put on the field the three strikers with the entrance of Caicedo by Reyes. His decision could not have a more immediate result because Gerard, in a somewhat confused play, overtook the blanquiazules on the scoreboard. The goal was a release and the locals did not take long to extend their lead in an action in which the three strikers intervened and ended up capped by Piatti who remains in a state of grace.
With such a comfortable advantage everything pointed to that the Espanyol would have a placid match and that could sentence taking advantage of the speed of its offensive players. Each defensive recovery of the espanyolistas was a sensational option to build a against although they did not finish those of Quique Sánchez Flores. At the end and after several frustrated attempts, Jurado ended up connecting with Piatti who sentenced the game with a great goal. Victory at last!
