2-3: Away day delight
RCD Espanyol B pick up a precious three points away to Cerdanyola FC
RCD Espanyol B ended the year with a valuable three points as they overcame Cerdanyola FC 3-2 on Sunday.
The opening half hour was nothing short of chaotic, with every chance leading to a goal. Espanyol took advantage of their early dominance by taking the lead through Alejandro Gorjón, maybe even an own goal, but a lead for the young pericos nonetheless.
That did not last long, as inside 15 minutes Cerdanyola capitalised from a set piece to equalise. The story of the game repeated itself: Espanyol restored their lead through a great goal from Gori before the half hour mark, followed by an equaliser for the hosts just three minutes later.
When it looked like it would be even at the break, Espanyol's top scorer Javi Hernández latched onto a good ball from Sergio Rivarés to put the Mágico in front for a third time, this time without an instant response as they led at half-time.
In the second half the game changed, maintain the same speed and intensity but with neither side unable to get another goal. Espanyol had chances through David Momoh and Gori to kill it off, but this time the clinical finishing was absent from the youngsters’ boots as it remained anyone’s game for the taking.
In the end, it was enough for Espanyol to come away with the three points, a huge result as Manolo González’s first away win of the season is enough to take Espanyol B out of the relegation zone of the Segunda RFEF. A strong run of form to end the year, as the team goes again in the new year to climb up the table.
