2-1: Second half comeback
RCD Espanyol Femení come back to secure a momentous win over CE Europa
RCD Espanyol Femení came from behind to beat CE Europa on Saturday.
Adrian González’s side returned to the Ciutat Esportiva Dani Jarque searching for a return to the top of the table, having been knocked off top spot last time out. In the first half, Espanyol were much superior to a defensive opposition, making it even more surprising when the hosts fell behind in the first half.
Europa had taken advantage of the opportunity they had, while the Mágico could not find a way through. In the second half however, the script was quickly rewritten. Within a minute, Ana Hernández headed a corner kick into the back of the net to make it 1-1. Espanyol continued to dominate, but it was not a constant siege like in the first half.
It was more difficult to get into Europa’s box and create chances, but in the final ten minutes Espanyol took a step forward and seized their opportunity. Aina picked up the ball on the edge of the box and, from a player made at the Dani Jarque and playing on those very grounds, struck it past the keeper to complete the comeback.
With a late lead Espanyol were not done, and they could have wrapped up the result were it not for the post denying a third goal. The pericas continue their surge with an important victory on home soil, ahead of next week’s trip to DUX Logroño.
