At the other end, Dépor took advantage of a defensive error to make it 1-0 after twenty minutes of play, but that woke Espanyol up as they equalised through Mar Torras before the break.
In the second half, Deportivo tried to take more initiative, but when Espanyol recovered, it came with a more direct game and looked to settle in away from home. . Even so, it was difficult to find continuity in the game on the part of both teams, and there was a lot at stake.
When the match entered stoppage time and seemingly headed for a fair draw, Deportivo snatched the three points with a 94th minute winner, condemning Espanyol to a sour defeat late on in their second loss of the season.
