1-1: Draw in Torrent
RCD Espanyol B play out stalemate on the road to Valencian side Torrent CF
RCD Espanyol B picked up a point away to Torrent in a 1-1 draw on Sunday.
An organised Espanyol managed to take the lead after twenty minutes of play thanks to a well-executed free kick from Javi Hernández, drawing first blood for the young pericos on opposition turf. They would continue to push but were unable to get another goal, leaving the game open for the hosts to get back into it.
Ian Forns had a big chance to double Espanyol’s lead but his shot flashed wide, and although they looked set to head into half-time ahead, a penalty just before the break saw Torrent equalise to make it all square in the Valencian region.
In the second half the game seemed to be breaking down with little flow to it. Both teams had dangerous chances, though it was Torrent with the clearer opporuntities, albeit equally unable to capitalise on them. Carlos Sánchez almost took home the three points late on with his effort, but Torrent’s Leganés prevented it and kept it all square.
Espanyol B come away with a point away from home in an evenly fought match, which could have gone either way. Next up is a city derby at the Ciutat Esportiva Dani Jarque, where Manolo González’s youngsters host Barcelona side UE Sant Andreu on Saturday.
