1-1: Draw in Formentera
RCD Espanyol B held to a draw by 10 men SD Formentera
RCD Espanyol B played out a 1-1 draw away to SD Formentera on Sunday.
A second away game in a row brought Javi Chica’s boys to the Balearic island of Formentera, as they continued their push for the play-offs. Espanyol started strongly though with few chances, the best of them coming from Javi Hernández and Nene.
Right on the stroke of half-time, the young pericos were awarded a penalty which was converted by Hernández, rolling it home for his 10th goal of the season. Ahead at the break and opening the second half well, the game would be turned on its head when Joan Marí was sent off for Formentera.
Now down to 10 men with nothing to lose, Formentera took a risk and it paid off as they equalised. Espanyol could not take advantage of the man advantage, especially against the hosts who were happy to settle for the point. Chica’s side return to the Ciutat Esportiva Dani Jarque next week, when they host Torrent on Sunday.
