1-1 draw in final home fixture
Los Pericos are held to a stalemate by Valencia CF at the RCDE Stadium
The penultimate matchday of the LaLiga Santander season saw Espanyol sign off in front of their home fans for 2021/22. The last game held at the RCDE Stadium this term ended in a 1-1 draw against Valencia CF, as Los Pericos came back from behind to take a point.
Under the temporary stewardship of interim coach Luis Blanco, following the departure of Vicente Moreno that had been announced the previous day, the team were looking for victory in Cornellà.
The team, however, found themselves on the back foot, with a goal scored by Maxi Gómez in the 37th minute of a languid first half.
Searching for the equaliser, RCD Espanyol had a goal cancelled out for offside against Javi Puado.
When the goal eventually came, the home team found it through a familiar source: Just before the break, Raúl de Tomás perfectly finished off an assist from Rubén Sánchez, who had been brought in as a starter. The goal was RDT's 17th in the league this season, and he continues in the fight for top Spanish marksman in the top tier.
In the second half, youth team player Dani Villahermosa came on to make his official debut with the first team.
There was little in the way of opportunities to go ahead, and the game ended up in a 1-1 draw to round off RCD Espanyol's home commitments for the season.
The team's home record concludes at 9 wins, 6 draws and 4 defeats at the RCDE Stadium.
