1-1: Draw at the Stage Front Stadium
RCD Espanyol frustrated at home in a draw against FC Andorra
RCD Espanyol were held to a 1-1 draw by FC Andorra on Sunday afternoon.
A quiet start saw few chances on either side, though it was Andorra with the early opportunities with Joan García getting down quickly to deny the opener. But Andorra would persist and found the opener soon after, leaving Espanyol with work to do going into the break.
Manolo González needed a reaction for the second half and made a move from the stands, bringing on Pol Lozano and Gastón Valles for extra firepower: and it paid off. Omar El Hilali played it in to Martin Braithwaite in the box who buried the ball into the bottom corner, finding the equaliser and breathing life back into the Mágico.
Espanyol had to capitalise now that they were level and Braithwaite almost doubled his tally for the afternoon, but his shot at the near post hit the post. Deep into stoppage time and the hosts could have had a penalty as José Gragera was shoved to the ground, and even after Braithwaite’s effort went wide, nothing was given despite clear contact.
It ended in a frustrating draw at home for Espanyol, who will finish the week outside of the automatic promotion spots with six finals to go – many against promotion rivals.
