RCD Espanyol Femení open the year with a home draw with Deportivo Alavés

RCD Espanyol Femení played out a 1-1 draw against Deportivo Alavés Femenino on Sunday.

In a double header at the Ciutat Esportiva Dani Jarque, the women’s first team were first up before the B team’s match in the afternoon. Espanyol were dominant in the early stages against their opponents, who could barely get into the final third.

Simona tested the keeper in the 27th minute with a header that went just shy of the post. But minutes later, Lice Chamorro would open the scoring with a great goal, picking it out from distance to draw first blood for the pericas.

In the second half, Espanyol continued to control the match, but Alavés took their opportunity after the break to level it up soon after the hour mark. With the scoreboard now honours even, it was the visitors with the momentum and Espanyol who needed to defend what they had.

Though it was Espanyol who dominated in the closing stages and came closest to taking all three points, it ended all square in the first game of 2024.
