1-1: All square at Alcorcón
RCD Espanyol held to a draw against AD Alcorcón at the Estadio Municipal de Santo Domingo
RCD Espanyol played out a 1-1 draw away to AD Alcorcón on Sunday.
Luis Miguel Ramis’ side travelled to the Estadio Municipal de Santo Domingo in Madrid with the knowledge that a win would send them top of the league. A frantic start saw both sides with goalscoring chances in the opening minutes, but after that it would calm down and turn into a scrappy affair.
Joan García had to make some comfortable but important saves to keep Alcorcón out, while Keita Balde had Espanyol’s best chance of the half when his header went wide. They went into the break goalless, surely with more to come but a job to do in the second half.
The game continued in the same fashion until Ramis made two changes on the hour mark, introducing Pere Milla and Jofre Carreras to the game. Minutes later, Javi Puado found Martin Braithwaite free in the box and the Dane guided his header into the roof of the net to break the deadlock at last.
Unfortunately Espanyol’s lead would not last long; a scramble on the line saw the ball cleared out to Chema Rodríguez on the edge of the box, and he gave García no chance and scored the equaliser for Alcorcón. A second consecutive draw keeps Espanyol a point off the top and just on the edge of the automatic promotion places.
