1-0: Fine margins in local derby
RCD Espanyol B edged past UE Sant Andreu thanks to Joan Puig's clever finish
RCD Espanyol B saw out a vital 1-0 win over UE Sant Andreu on Saturday.
In an affair between two Barcelona-based teams, the young pericos were searching for a result in their battle against relegation from the fourth tier. In a quiet first half, it took just one chance for Espanyol to strike: Gori played it to Javi Hernández to cross it in, and a clever run from Joan Puig allowed him to guide his header home for the opening goal.
Ahead at the break, the hosts knew that they had a valuable lead against a dangerous side. The second half was similar, although with more space to create danger on the counter-attack. Sant Andreu only had one chance through a corner kick, but could not get through the blanquiazul backline.
Espanyol held on with a clean sheet and a vital three points, coupled by the return of Antoniu Roca from injury and a first start for Alejandro Pérez in over a year.
