RCD Espanyol B are beaten on the road at Lleida Esportiu

RCD Espanyol B were beaten 1-0 by Lleida Esportiu on the road on Sunday.

The young pericos approached the match against the league leaders well, with the first dangerous chance of the match a long shot from Rivarés that came close. Manolo González's team was doing well in general terms, but with Lleida’s first serious chance Montero found the back of the net.

Lleida had the advantage and almost doubled it, but goalkeeper Ángel Fortuño denied a 2-0 lead with a strong hand in the 35th minute. Miguel Carvalho then came agonisingly close to the equaliser but his shot was deflected, leaving Espanyol trailing at the break.

In the second half, Espanyol searched for the leveller, but they were not successful in the final third. That last pass was missing to created a chance in the danger zone, while there was little to defend against from a content Lleida.

A defeat on the road to the team top of the Segunda RFEF is a tough blow but it leaves little time to dwell, as Valencia Mestalla visit the Ciutat Esportiva Dani Jarque next week.
