0-4: Another victory in the youth derby
Juvenil A knock Barça off the top spot after visiting the Joan Gamper stadium
Luis Blanco’s team were one up in the third minute in the youth derby versus Barça. This came thanks to a penalty that Mateo Joseph converted.
Despite such an early goal, both teams were evenly matched during the first half. But the one goal cushion gave the “Budgerigars” more confidence, which led to them scoring again after the half hour mark: Mateo again.
In the second half, Espanyol determined the match with another goal by Mateo who completed his hat-trick. In the final stretch, Antoniu Roca sealed the match at 0-4.
An important and valuable victory against an ever-complicated rival. These victories are the ones that highlight the importance of a project. In this case, we have a clear outlook for the Espanyol football academy teams: with the same demand, we want to reduce the periods to reach professional football. It’s not surprising that several youth players have already made their debut in the B team, and that Juvenil A has lads from the first year. In turn, Juvenil B has players from the cadet category among their eleven.
The results won’t always be what we want, but the level of learning that these generations are showing is very positive.
Juvenil A closes the first phase of the Division de Honor Juvenil with that thrashing. They are at the top of the league having only lost two of 18 matches played, and conceded the least number of goals.
