RCD Espanyol Femení lose final regular season game ahead of the play-offs

RCD Espanyol Femení were beaten 2-0 in the final game of the regular season by Atlético de Madrid B Femenino on Saturday.

With nothing to play for in matchday 26 of the Spanish second tier, and Espanyol’s play-off berth already confirmed, Juan Ignacio Ibarra took the opportunity to rotate his side, An even first half saw Carol Marín hit the post, before the visitors took the lead just before the break.

In the second half, Espanyol searched for the equaliser and deserved it, but just as coach Ibarra made a double substitution, Atléti B doubled their advantage when they capitalised on a defensive error. The hosts kept pushing and once again hit the woodwork through Lice Chamorro, but they could not find a way back into the game.

Espanyol Femení now put everything behind them to focus on the Primera Federación Femenina play-offs, with a place in the top flight at stake. They will take on SE AEM Femenino, playing the first leg away before welcoming the Lleida side to the Ciutat Esportiva Dani Jarque for the semi-final second leg.
