0-2: Cruel injury time
Celta takes the victory thanks to goals from Rossi and Sisto
Espanyol and Celta arrived to the match after winning their first two games of the season after a difficult start for both teams which have had a tough schedule. A priori, it was expected that the ‘pericos’ and ‘vigueses’ played more liberated and without less anxiety after the positive results achieved during the week, however, was a predominantly tactical match with hardly opportunities.
Espanyol wanted to take one more step in front their supporters that were expecting the first victory ¡of the season at home. Quique Sanchez Flores just changed its eleven and only introduced a change: Marc Roca instead of Hernán. The truth is that it was a rough match with many interruptions and was further complicated because of the rain. It was very difficult to enjoy continuity by neither of the contenders, that didn’t want to risk too much.
As usual this season the most incisive player was Leo Baptistao. The striker, who achieved his first goal against Osasuna, missed a clear hand to hand with Sergio Alvarez could have meant the first night. Shortly afterwards he did not take a good service from Reyes, who invented an assist from a scrum of legs.
Hernán entered the field after the break in place of Marc Roca and Caicedo did it shortly afterwards by Leo Baptistao, who retired visibly in pain. The Paraguayan speed could be a resource for Espanyol in a too flat and barely match. However, the changes had little effect and the match followed the same course. To end the setbacks, Reyes requested the change and Jurado entered.
First it was Gerard who could not finish after a good cross from Victor and later was the turn of David Lopez, in a play strategy, he had a good option to score. With the support of the crowd, the white and blue had more offensive continuity, especially with the appearances of Jurado on the left wing. It seemed that Espanyol was able to subdue his opponent, but again, the final minutes were tough with Espanyol. Rossi pounced on a ball into the space to beat Diego Lopez. Sisto, with a powerful shot from the front, finished sinking the locals.
