0-1: Hard-fought victory
RCD Espanyol Femení secure the three points on the road at Alhama El Pozo
RCD Espanyol Femení earned a valuable 1-0 win away to Alhama El Pozo on Sunday.
A second consecutive away day for Juan Ignacio Ibarra's girls saw them travel to Murcia, knowing that a win would see them capitalise on leaders Deportivo Abanca’s result and close the gap to the top of the table.
It was a very intense first half, but one in which Espanyol took the lead thanks to a great goal from Ángeles del Álamo, an advantage they took into half time. After the break, the Mágico knew that they had to fight to protect the scoreline.
Alhama were not giving up easily and almost got an equaliser, but for a spectacular Romy Salvador save to deny them. Ana Hernández was sent off in the final minutes of the match, leaving Espanyol to defend with 10 players in the closing stages. They got the result and a deserved three points, ahead of a return to the Dani Jarque next week against SE AEM.
