0-0: Goalless on the road
RCD Espanyol come away with a point away to Burgos CF
RCD Espanyol played out a 0-0 draw away to Burgos CF on Friday night.
Manolo González’s men travelled to El Plantío in Castile-Leon for a vital Friday night clash, with the chance to get a head start on promotion rivals in matchday 33. They were fortunate not to fall behind with the first chance of the game, as Burgos saw their goal disallowed by VAR for a handball by Fer Niño before he shot.
Espanyol accepted the wake-up call and seized control of the game, and Brian Oliván almost scored a superb goal but his strike was saved by José Antonio Caro. More fouls than chances summed up the first half, with Burgos head coach Bolo sent off for protesting and four yellow cards shown on the pitch before the half-time whistle went.
Tempers calmed down after the break, though a lack of clear-cut opportunities for the visitors forced González to react with a triple change that included top scorer Martin Braithwaite. Burgos were coming closer to opening the scoring, hitting the crossbar from a corner and seeing Álex Bermejo’s effort swerving just wide.
The drama continued into stoppage time, and in the final minute Joan García made a vital double save before Braithwaite saw his shot blocked at the other end. A goalless draw leaves RCD Espanyol with a point away from home, now five points off the top ahead of the rest of the Easter weekend’s fixtures.
