0-0: Goalless at the Stage Front Stadium
RCD Espanyol play out stalemate at home to SD Huesca
RCD Espanyol were held to a 0-0 draw at home by SD Huesca on Saturday.
Luis Miguel Ramis’ side came off the back of consecutive wins and going for three in a row, as they hosted the team with the best away record in LALIGA Hypermotion. The first half was uneventful with no shots on target and little to otherwise test Joan García, making his first league appearance of the season, and former perico Álvaro Fernández.
Knowing that they needed to step up in the second half, Espanyol had two glaring chances in the space of a minute. First, Fernández smothered Braithwaite’s close range shot and scooped it off the line, before the goalkeeper tipped Leandro Cabrera’s header over the bar moments later.
Espanyol kept persisting and substitute José Carlos Lazo almost made an impact off the bench, with his first shot blocked on the line and his second heading over the bar. The hosts were dominating with the majority of attempts on goal, but visitors Huesca were remaining resilient in defence.
Braithwaite had a header from inside the six-yard box that went agonisingly over the top, before he was unable to get round the keeper and in on goal. A goalless draw keeps Espanyol second for the time being, and although it was not the desired three points, a point apiece keeps their push for promotion alive.
