“We will go out there with ambition”
Manolo González is ready for his debut as men's first team coach at Real Zaragoza on Sunday
It will be his debut in the dugout of the men’s first team, but Manolo González is ready for the challenge ahead of his first match against Real Zaragoza on Sunday.
RCD Espanyol travel to La Romareda with González at the helm after he was appointed as the new head coach on Tuesday, starting with a trip to one of the most iconic stadiums in Spain.
González said, “It will be a complicated match against a charismatic coach with a lot of experience. All games start with difficulty and then you have to overcome it. We have to try to ensure that the team has an identity and goes out to win. My intention is to always go out and win. We will go out there with ambition in search of the result”.
Espanyol lie four points off the top of LALIGA Hypermotion ahead of Sunday’s vital clash, with 12 games to go in the race for promotion. González’s first squad list includes the return of Nico Melamed, who has been out of action for four months after undergoing surgery on a long-term injury.
The coach continued, “I see a receptive team with good rhythm and players aware of the importance of promotion. I am happy with that, and have worked normally with the mindset that there are only 12 games left. I have been in management for many years, but if I was not ready then I would not have accepted this role.
“They are games that motivate me, I wish I could play tomorrow. I've been wanting this my whole life. I am motivated and eager for the team to offer a good image of themselves”.
