“We are Espanyol and we have to prove it”
Martin Braithwaite is motivated to keep going to return RCD Espanyol to the first tier of Spanish football
Martin Braithwaite has explained his focus remains on the collective goal of returning to the top tier, speaking after his matchwinning brace on Saturday.
Though the new LALIGA Hypermotion top goalscorer is pleased to be leading the way in the second division, the Dane has no doubt that it is about getting the results necessary to secure instant promotion this season.
Braithwaite said, “I am never satisfied with goals. I always want to improve, but I'm happy because the most important thing is to get the three points and on Sunday we want to look for those three points again. I am very comfortable here and I have a good relationship with the Espanyol fans. We have shared values; they pay to see us play and I want to thank them for their behaviour with my commitment on the pitch”.
The RCD Espanyol striker scored his 10th and 11th goals of the season in the 2-1 win against Villarreal B, securing the Mágico’s first three points of the year and moving them within a point of the automatic promotion spots. It also makes him the leading goalscorer in the league, followed by teammate Javi Puado on 10 goals.
Braithwaite continued, “The level of this league is very high, but I do not feel pressure for that as all that matters is getting wins. We are Espanyol and we have to seek to win every day, even if that is not always possible. We have to compete with a lot of humility, but also a lot of confidence.
“We must win the games at home and away. We are Espanyol and we have to prove it, we all know the objective. There are no excuses, we are going to give everything to achieve it”.
