“The objective is to get the team back to the first division”
Raquel Cabezón apologises and accepts responsibility for the errors that led to relegation
“As the highest authority of the section, I want to apologise to the fans because they are the ones who suffer defeats the most. I want to apologise for not having achieved the objective and we are already preparing for next season and to get back to the first division,” assured Head of RCD Espanyol Femení, Raquel Cabezón. On this matter, she stated that now it is time to learn from the mistakes, adding that “we know our direction and we have to go there with more strength. We have to get back to the first division during the year the section celebrates its 50th anniversary, and the team deserves to be competing on the front line producing good results and winning.”
Cabezón recalled that “we’ve been through complicated seasons” and added that there had been “an effort” to achieve the objective of avoiding relegation, “but that wasn’t possible.” The Head of the section expressed her gratitude for the support she received from the directors of the club: “During the year, we have been in direct contact with the Board and the Directors and we have fully taken advantage of the resources. We have to keep working and put our heads together because there are many things to do such as planning the season with more calmness and at a more leisurely pace compared to last season. The club has given us their support and now we have to accept responsibility for the mistakes and get to work.”
Raquel emphasised that “there are two matches left and we have to fight to stay in 15th place. When the season finishes, the club will explain the next project. We have made mistakes and we have to focus.”
On the subject of possible signings, she highlighted that “the idea of signing for Espanyol has to be appealing to any player,” and in relation to the filial, she added that the squad is “so young and has been fighting until the end. Furthermore, there has been a great participation of players this season and there are other upcoming footballers. The objective is that they improve and can keep competing.”
