“Promotion happens at home”
Captain Sergi Gómez is keen to build on their strong home form for the visit of FC Andorra
RCD Espanyol men’s first team captain Sergi Gómez knows the importance of getting results at home ahead of the visit of FC Andorra on Sunday.
He said, “We have taken a step forward and we have improved together at a defensive level. The numbers don’t lie. Sunday has nothing to do with what happened in the first leg. They play differently and each team fights for themselves. We are at home and we have to be strong here, with our fans and we have to go it from the first minute”.
Espanyol will look to extend their strong home form when they take on Andorra at the Stage Front Stadium, having won last time out at the Temple against Albacete BP. Every point counts at this stage of the season, as well as every goal, with goal difference keeping the Mágico out of the top two at the start of matchday 36.
Gómez continued, “Promotion happens at home. We have a key match and the fans are really backing us, home and away. On a personal note, I feel very happy and content [for his automatic contract extension], and I hope that next year it will be in the First Division. We are fighting to achieve it, there are seven finals left to do it”.
