For Kenneth Soler, last Saturday's game was a special day as he made his league debut in the 1-1 draw against CD Tenerife.
The academy player, who made his senior debut last season in the Copa del Rey, came off the bench in the LALIGA Hypermotion encounter. Now training with the men’s first team, he was delighted to play his first minutes in the white-and-blue shirt.
Kenneth said, “It was a very special day, I will remember it for the rest of my life. During the week I was training with the first team and the coach had already said that if players from the B team came up, it was because they had the opportunity to play. He was very calm and focused and there was a great atmosphere, like every home game”.
Since returning to the club in summer 2022, Kenneth has been a key player for Espanyol B and featured on several occasions in the senior squad. He replaced Álvaro Aguado towards the end of the game against Tenerife, just before Espanyol took the lead.
He continued, “The coach told me to be calm and, as I have been with him in the B team, I know what he asks of me. The team worked hard to get ahead on the scoreboard, but, in the end, in they levelled it up from a set-piece. There are 10 finals left, and we have to go out to win in Burgos and continue fighting for promotion no matter what.
Kenneth concluded, “I have felt at home since I joined Espanyol. They gave me the opportunity to be at a top team like this and I am very proud of the entire process, of the years I have been here, at home. Many youth players reach the top and that makes you proud”.
