“It was a must-win game”
Manolo González reflects on victory on his debut against Real Zaragoza
RCD Espanyol men’s head coach Manolo González praised the team’s performance in the 1-0 win over Real Zaragoza on Sunday.
He said, “The team worked very hard, and though there is a lot of room for improvement, the victory is valuable. It was a must-win game, we had to go out there and look for that bit of luck. We missed having more possession, and we have to maintain composure, which at first was difficult and now, less so”.
Espanyol took all three points at La Romareda thanks to Javi Puado’s goal after seven minutes, which proved to be the winner in a hard-fought victory. The result keeps the Mágico in the race for automatic promotion, with 11 crucial games ahead.
González continued, “The fans were spectacular today. I am very happy with Óscar Gil, for example, who had barely warmed up when he came on at the end. I was also surprised by the faces on the benches: if we achieve that union by combining it with play, it will be very difficult for anyone to beat us”.
