“I wanted to return to LaLiga”
RCD Espanyol has paid one million euros for Jurado’s transfer plus a series of variables that could amount to 500,000 euros based on performance
After playing for Schalke 04, Spartak of Moscow and Watford, José Manuel Jurado returns to La Liga. The player born in Andalusia, after passing the medical test, has signed for the next three seasons plus another optional depending on a number of sporting objectives, as explained by the Club CEO, Robert Ramon. Jurado, who will have a clause of 16 million euros, said in his presentation that he wanted to return to the Spanish League and specially to a club with a project as RCD Espanyol.
“I wanted to return to the Spanish League, because is one of the best in the world. After six years abroad I wanted to return. I hope I can show my football in the Spanish League and that it is a good year. We are starting a new project, with a new manager and signings. I arrive here hoping to have a good year”, he said. In this sense he said he hopes to offer his best version. “I will do my best. I am as excited as I was when I made my debut. I hope everything turns out well and that the project grows”, he said.
Jurado said that the fact that Quique Sánchez Flores is the manager has been decisive but also the project Espanyol is building. “Quique Sánchez Flores has been important, because he wanted me for this project. I have also played with other players as Roberto, Reyes and it is a pleasure to be with them again. They are great players and this team looks good”, he said. He also pointed out that Quique is “a great manager” and that he wants to do “something important”. “I arrive with the same idea and I want that Espanyol becomes a big team in Spain and in Europe”.
The football director, Ángel Gómez, said that Jurado is a player "with hierarchy, who treats the ball well and experienced. He is a born competitor and he will help us a lot to give a leap of quality". Finally Robert Ramon has thanked Jurado "for believing in the project" and added that he expects the Andalusian to give us "a lot of happiness".
