“I couldn’t imagine a weekend like this”
Gastón Vallés reflects on an unforgettable weekend playing for the men's first team and the B team
In a dramatic victory for RCD Espanyol at Ipurúa, it was a whirlwind weekend in particular for Gastón Vallés as he made his men’s first team debut.
The Uruguayan striker, who only signed for the Club to play for the B team last month, was called up to the senior squad by Luis Miguel Ramis and came off the bench with a minute of normal time to play against SD Eibar. Ten minutes later, he assisted the winner to seal a 3-2 win and send Espanyol into the automatic promotion places.
Speaking on his debut, Vallés said, “I'm very happy, I still cannot believe it because everything happened so quickly. It has been crazy; we had the chance to win, I took advantage of the minutes I had on the pitch and ended up very happy. I couldn’t imagine a weekend like this”.
His weekend did not end there: upon returning to Barcelona later that night, he was in the starting XI for Espanyol B on Sunday afternoon. Vallés would have been forgiven for not being fresh from the start, but he proved the opposite and broke the deadlock inside 10 minutes en route to a 2-1 win for the young pericos.
The Uruguayan youngster continued, “We got two very important victories for the Club that help us keep both teams at the top. I am very happy to contribute and I can only hope that this continues. I am very happy, because, when you start at a new club, it is difficult, but it has been easy so far”.
