Wu Lei, new player of RCD Espanyol
The footballer is one of the top stars of the Chinese Super League
RCD Espanyol Barcelona has closed the signing of Chinese attacker Wu Lei (Nanjing, November 19th, 1991), from Shanghai SIPG FC. Wu Lei won the Golden Boot of the Chinese Super League in 2018 and the previous five seasons was also the Chinese top scorer of the competition. The new blue and white player will wear the number 24 on his shirt.
The Club Sport Management has been following the evolutions of Wu Lei, that has attracted the attention of many teams of the Premier League. However, the player has preferred to opt for the blue and white bid for both the sports project and the corporate led by Rastar Group. For RCD Espanyol, this is one of the most important sports bets in recent years, as the different managers consider that it is a player with enormous potential who can become one of the benchmarks of the squad.
Wu Lei, an international for the Chinese national team, has been breaking records for years in the Superliga where he has competed with renowned international players and exceeded them in his records. He made his debut as a professional player at the age of 14 years and 10 months on September 2nd, 2006 becoming the youngest player to debut in the Chinese Super League. Shanghai SIPG FC, the team of origin of the player, was proclaimed champion of the Chinese Super League in 2018 - he finished with the monopoly of Guangzhou Evergrande - and Wu Lei was awarded as best player and top scorer after scoring 27 goals. Moreover, in the past six years, Wu Lei has scored 102 goals in the Chinese Super League.
The new blue and white player, who is very versatile , has recently participated in the Asian Cup, played in the United Arab Emirates, defending the colours of his country. The attacker has had an outstanding performance with his team.
The signing of Wu Lei by RCD Espanyol confirms the commitment of President Chen Yansheng and, consequently, of Rastar Group with the project he has been leading for more than three years. The white and blue CEO has repeated in his public statements that this is a long-term project and that his idea is to continue betting firmly on the future of the entity.
