"We want to remain strong at home"
Gerard Moreno says the team has managed to be regular at RCDE Stadium
Espanyol is finishing their practice ahead of Friday's game against UD Las Palmas (Estadi RCDE, 20.45h). Gerard Moreno, the team's top scorer, is confident that Espanyol will maintain the same level as in previous days to achieve a positive result.
"Las Palmas is a team that plays well football and has a very clear idea inoculated by their coach. It is a rival that tries to have fun although perhaps in this second round they have had more problems. However, it is a team that continues to play and generate and continues to have fun so therefore they do deserve our respect. We will have to be very careful with their players and try to take the ball off them. We have to work together in defence knowing that during the game will see different phases. We are in our stadium, we have our weapons to damage them and we have to be strong in our field. If we continue as before, we will achieve a positive result", he said.
The striker, in this context, has pointed out that "we have earned the respect, above all, at home where we are better. During the season you gain confidence and you get the rivals have more respect. We wanted to be strong in our field and lately we are being".
In this sense insisted that the team is "concentrated to try to achieve the three points" but also said that "we are facing two very strong rivals. We know how Las Palmas plays and the kind of season that Eibar is doing. We will try to achieve the six points". Gerard added that "we have two very important games" but he said that "it will be with five games left until the end when we see where we are. I do not like to talk about goals because there is a lot left and that would distract us. We have to keep working week after week and preparing the game as well as possible".
The white and blue player has also made a balance of the last two games against Celta and Villarreal and has acknowledged that "we may have missed a bit of luck although they have consolidated projects. They are teams that play under the same model for a couple of years on the run, whilst we are building a new project for half a year. We are on the right track, we have to do things well and keep growing".
Finally, about the number of goals that has been proposed for this season he commented that no specific figure has been mentioned: "I do not want to put pressure. When you aim for a specific number of goals if you don't achieve it, then you get very pressed. The most I can do is working for the team, get it right and help my mates".
