"We keep getting results"
Luis Miguel Ramis analyses an eventful draw at home with Real Zaragoza
RCD Espanyol coach Luis Miguel Ramis gave an honest assessment of the 1-1 draw against Real Zaragoza on Friday.
An uneventful first half gave way for an action-packed second half at the Stage Front Stadium, where Espanyol took the lead through Edu Expósito then held out for a point after being reduced to 10 men with Fernando Calero’s red card.
Ramis said, “We are not happy with the point, but we are pleased with the effort. The point, considering the circumstances, is not a bad one, and we keep getting results.
The point is hard earned and deserved, because it is very difficult to get something out of a game when you are in a circumstance like that”.
Having broken the deadlock just shy of the hour mark with Expósito’s first goal of the season, the white-and-blue side saw Calero sent off three minutes later. It left Espanyol to play over half an hour with one player less, and although Zaragoza equalised later in the second half, a resilient performance was enough for Espanyol to get something.
Ramis further explained, “We had chances with set pieces and we were confident that the second goal could come. We defended well for the half hour we were with one player less, we were growing into the game until the red card came. There would have been a real possibility to win if we had 11 players on the pitch, but we had to adapt and the point is valuable”.
The head coach concluded, “We wanted to get the three points and we did not take the step forward as far as we wanted. If you take small ones, one day we will make the bigger steps because there is potential to do so. But we have to offer much more; there are players who have more to offer and it is my fault, so we will work on that”.
