"We have to develop our idea as well as possible"
Sánchez Flores bets on trying to make FC Barcelona feel uncomfortable
Quique Sánchez Flores will live a new derby for Espanyol. After the experience of last season, the coach knows that one of the keys is to show on the pitch the idea planned during the week to try to make FC Barcelona feel uncomfortable and does not offer its best version.
Sánchez Flores knows that a derby is a different "emotionally" match although he remembers that the value of the points is the same. "We want to do something important for our people and we hope to do our best because it will be demanding. We are worried what to propose and what to do to reduce the rival. Barcelona will put us in difficulties and whoever plays we will find rivals of a high level. We will try to make them feel uncomfortable, and we have to develop our idea as well as possible". In this sense, the Madrilenian coach gives important to the feeling of belonging of his players. "They know what a derby means. When I make lineups and see so many players of our Academy we strengthen the idea of last year that was to have guys with feelings and respect the shirt", he said.
To all this, the white-and-blue coach considers it essential to add a good dose of intensity: "I do not see a match without intensity. Sport is not just talent, quality or organization. The intensity is measured by desire and in a derby there will be more for sure”. In any case it is clear that this is not a unique opportunity to win at the Camp Nou. "We have a great opportunity because it is the first match we have to break the statistics, but I have never been the "now or never". There is a statistic and one day it will break. Let's see if we are lucky and we are part of that statistic", he said.
The blue-and-white coach does not expect a Barcelona very different from previous seasons because he considers that it is the players who mark the style. "Football is the players, they are above the coaches. Valverde brings common sense and brings performance to its players. I imagine a powerful Barça that will grow when it stabilizes their ideas". Speaking of the rival, and from his own experience, he considers that these weeks after the international break are "complex". "You have to hit to select well. They have different options to deal with this situation, but it is the only difference from last year", he added.
