"We do not have anything else in mind but a victory"
Quique said that Tenerife “sounds me more like a team from the First Division”
Quique Sánchez Flores faces the second leg of the Copa del Rey with an eye on passing the tie. He warns that it will not be easy and says that he respect Tenerife. Recognizes that in the first leg, Espanyol had the best moments at the start and the end of the game and hopes that this feeling on Thursday will last the whole game.
"The most important thing in the second leg is the result because that will take us to the next phase. We do not consider anything other than winning. We are left with the simplest. We have the tools, the players are focused and the options are intact. We play against a team that plays on the Second Division but sounds me more like a First Division team and that's why we expect a difficult game", he says.
He advances that "there will be changes in the line up because we have a long squad and I have to give chances to each and every player", and he admits that he does not think about a setback "because that is like thinking that you are going to die tomorrow. We do not think about elimination but about happiness and that is what we want to transmit to our fans. We do not think of undesired scenarios, we flee from mediocrity and lack of courage".
He insists that Tenerife has not changed much and that "he has a very definite way of playing, like a cheerful team that plays very well from midfield forward. We have to be in control more minutes than we did in Tenerife
He said that "we are busy with the idea that the team is where it deserves, beyond the match against Getafe that was not the best, but this year I have seen many games like Getafe. The lads have not deserved to be in a sense of anguish that we showed on Monday. We understand the sensitivity of the public and the fans. Almost all the matches for us are difficult, we do not have a clear superiority against the rivals, we think that we will arrive in a hurry at the end of the match".
Reiterates, with respect to the Cup, to fall before a team of lower category always leaves a feeling of "frustration" and said that this game should have been resolved "a single match. In the Cup, the best clubs are given a great advantage. It's made for the big teams to reach the final". To underline this idea, he recalls that the Premier plays a single game and then disputes "a final four" between the semifinalists. "Here is a long and difficult competition that motivates you as you reach the final goal. It's hard to find motivation when there is so much missing. I like to get what I deserve".
