González: "The team did not deserve to lose"
The coach talks following the defeat at UD Las Palmas
Manolo González was very upset by the defeat in Las Palmas, and did not believe that the 1-0 result was a fair one for RCD Espanyol.
"The team did not deserve to lose. If you let them off, it's tough, and I am annoyed by the criteria that is being applied by the referees."
"It seems that we cannot talk to them. The fouls, the protests, the injury, the free kick being taken 50 metres from the foul," he said.
"Anything I say seems to be from the heat of the moment, but it is not. Us not scoring today is mind-blowing. We were good with the ball, but we need to be forceful in the areas. The same thing happened to us with Valencia. In the Primera División, these errors are not forgiven."
The coach also insisted that Las Palmas were not the better side.
"Before the goal they did not have any chances to score -and we had a couple. I do not think they were superior to us. This team compete, despite the situation. We need to finish our chances. Today we leave here annoyed, because the result was negative. Now it is time to recharge our batteries and come back stronger."
On the return of Edu Expósito after almost a year out through injury, he said that the midfielder is player who “gives us judgement, a pause in proceedings and makes you play good football. He gives you different things. We need him to get up to speed.”
