"We are very angry with the first half"
Quique Sánchez Flores points out that the team improved after the half time but without the goal
The Espanyol premiered at home with a defeat. The blue-and-white team lost to Leganés who claimed the goal of Mantovani in the first half. The coach, Quique Sánchez Flores, said that his team was not successful. "We arrived very angry at the break and we knew we had to improve it. In the second half we did what we should have done in the first: pressing, being in control, taking the ball to the rival's box... It was a pity, because this is not the way we wanted to start and we did not look like the team we left", he said.
In this sense he stated that the match has been very similar to the one of last season “with the difference that they have scored. We were in trouble and everything got much more complicated"
Quique Sánchez Flores made clear that to achieve a good result it is necessary to play fully focused during the entire match. "We had a good game against Sevilla and today we performed well in the second half but we threw away 45 minutes. The rival has come up and we, however, have not pointed our mechanisms and our virtues and all flaws came out. If we are not concentrated, we have more defects than virtues and we have to adjust that".
The coach has commented that Javi López's injury has forced him to "change three positions" and added that it has been a match "a strange one under strange conditions"
Finally, Quique Sánchez Flores has indicated that this tie rest will be useful to the team to improve in some aspects in the game. "We have half a dozen players who have not done the preseason. It's complicated and we need time. When they are in good shape they will look more like last season. Gaining time will allow to do better".
