"Tomorrow brings a new dawn"
Rufete acknowledges that one of the first decisions will be to appoint a new coach
This Sunday's game against R. Celta was Francisco Joaquín Pérez Rufete's final match in charge. At a press conference, the Blue and Whites' coach stated, “tomorrow brings a new dawn. Next week, we'll have certainty over who's coming in, and of course who's leaving La Liga. The coach is going to be one of the first decisions we take. We need somebody who can help us to build a framework, someone who excites us and brings us closer to our objective”.
Rufete declared, “I want to thank the people who have given me all their support in what has been a difficult period for the club. When you are in a situation like this, it's important for the team not to give up, to maintain respect for the club and the institution even though people are sad and upset because what's happened isn't something to be proud of." The coach insisted, "I think that the team has put up a fight. Although it's not the most important thing right now, I don't believe the team ever gave up. That's just my humble opinion; I'm not trying to justify it or anything."
Lastly, Rufete said, “I have acted with the best intentions in the world. There will always be critics, especially when things aren't going well. I've respected the club's image, but then everyone's got their own opinion. I focus on what is best for the club. I came for seven games and today that period came to a close. I'm not just going to stand still and be there when the going is good but not be there for the bad times. We have to grow and be brave."
