Thomas N’Kono named new RCD Espanyol ambassador
The legendary goalkeeper takes up a new representative role within the Club
Thomas N’Kono has been appointed as the latest RCD Espanyol ambassador.
RCD Espanyol has expanded its list of ambassadors with the incorporation of N'Kono, a legend of Espanyol and world football, who will perform representative and institutional functions for the Club having stepped down from his role in the men’s first team setup this season.
N'Kono will share these institutional tasks with former players and teammates such as Toni Blanch, Raúl Longhi, Joan Josep Bertomeu, Dani Solsona, Iñaki Pérez de Arrilucea, Diego Orejuela and Dolors Ribalta. The Cameroonian continues to be one of the most loved footballers by fans around the world and a top-level ambassador.
Signing for the Club in 1982, N'Kono has now been linked to RCD Espanyol for more than 40 years. He spent eight years defending the white-and-blue goal, during which he won the 1984 Africa Cup of Nations with Cameroon and represented his country at the 1990 World Cup. He won the African Player of the Year award on two occasions, in 1979 and 1982, and is considered the greatest African goalkeeper of all time.
Serving as a technical secretariat, first team technical assistant and goalkeeping coach across the last two decades, N'Kono now begins a new stage at the Club.
The initiative of RCD Espanyol’s social ambassadors was created a few years ago to promote the Club’s collaborations and actions over time that various prominent former players carry out, representing the Club in events including supporters clubs’ meetings and institutional acts.
