"This is the way forward. We have to suffer to win, together with our fans"
Pablo Machín is pleased with the point gained and thanks the fans for their support
After getting closer than ever to a first win of the season at the RCDE Stadium with the draw against Real Betis, the RCD Espanyol de Barcelona coach wanted to highlight the team’s work rate, and above all the role played by the “blanquiazul” fans.
“Naturally the point has a mathematical value, but I think the game today goes beyond that. This is the way forward, we have to suffer to win, together with our fans. Today the fans were not just a 10/10 but a 12th man, they were behind the team from the first to the last minute and the team responded with effort, grit and attitude. With these features it will be a lot easier to get out of the situation we are in”.
With regards to the way the game played out, the Espanyol manager praised his players’ work, despite conceding in the first few minutes of play. “We were up against a strong opponent, in a good run of form, but despite going behind in the first half, I think that we were the better side and we were able to turn it around which for a team in our situation deserves a lot of credit. In the second half we were confronted with the reality of our situation, which is to fight and suffer for every point. Today we’ve added a point which I think is a fair result, because in the second half Betis were better than us”
Machín is confident this game can be a turning point for the team and insists thats the side carries on in the same way. “Today, we’ve found a way forward. We’ve got rid of that bad taste that the game against Osasuna left in the mouth, and we’ve shown that we can be competitive, we’ve taken a step towards turning it around”, the “blanquiazul” coach remarked.
