"There is a lot to learn and work"
Sergi Darder said that the squad wants to start playing and compete
Sergi Darder, one of the players called to be a reference of the team, enjoys his first full preseason with Espanyol. Last summer he arrived on the last market day and barely had time to adjust before the debut. The Mallorcan player assured that the team is working very hard to arrive in good conditions to the league premiere and be able to face the season with guarantees.
"In France the preseason was very physical. Last season we ran a lot in games, but maybe we lacked a bit of aggression and intensity in short spaces. This preseason will help us because we work hard", said Darder. The Mallorcan player has said that it is being a demanding preparation. "We have suffered”, he said respecting the morning session, "but we enjoyed when it was over. The preseason is being tough, but it will help us and help prepare the season that will be long".
This Thursday the Espanyol will play its first friendly. Darder said that the staff is eager to debut. "We are going to try to capture what we are doing. We know it is a test, but we take it very seriously because there is a lot to learn and work", he said. The midfielder has made it clear that in the locker room a winning mentality prevails. "When you have not competed for a while, you want to play and win. Tomorrow there are not three points, but it is a good test for everyone and we are looking forward to start playing. We really want to compete: what the player wants is to play. We know that tomorrow we will not be 100x100 yet, but we face it with enthusiasm and ambition. We will try to win the first match although we know that other aspects should be valued".
On the arrival of Rubi to the bench has indicated that it is a manager who likes "to play" but has also stated that "works other aspects of the game".
Regarding the use of the VAR this season (tomorrow against Olot will be a test), the Artà player has pointed out that "football will be fairer and the more it is, the better".
