"The first thing is to change this situation"
Machin insists that the formula for success is to work hard
Pablo Machín has been presented as new coach of RCD Espanyol of Barcelona in the auditorium Juan Segura Palomares. The manager has indicated that the priority is to put on track the current situation, to reinforce the positive aspects and to achieve a suitable state of mind for the players to be more competitive. "If we are negative, we will have more difficulties. We have to try to bring out the positive things and more when the whole environment is pessimistic. If the team is in this situation, it is because they have done wrong things, but they have also done other good things. When we identify them, minimize mistakes and promote virtues, we will be closer to being a competitive team to win and difficult to beat. Machín arrives accompanied by the second coach Jordi Guerrero, the physical trainer Jordi Balcellls and the assistant analyst Carlos Martínez.
"What I have to do is that the team improves. If I understand that it is necessary to play with another system or to do some type of nuance, I will do it. What I have to look for is the benefit of the team and try to get the victories. Once we are better positioned, we will look at higher heights, but we must be cautious and reasonable: the first thing is to channel this situation.
The blue and white coach has indicated that although he has not been able to work with the group since the beginning, he considers that there is enough time to correct the dynamics of the team. "When the results don't come, you have to change your way. The reality is that the team is in the one before last position and I don't think in the long term: I'm realistic. We have to try to raise the morale of the group and try to get the first victory as soon as possible. There are still days left to change the situation inside out", he said. In this sense he said that players often perform "below their potential when things go wrong. I want to make them see that playing in a different way can give the ideal contexts to shine: the key is more in the collective than in the individual.
On his scheme has stressed that it is clear "which is the football I like and I have been able to put it into practice it into the teams I have led" and added that we must build a team that "is balanced and dominates all phases. Machín has made it clear that the coach does not usually have "a magic batton" and has stated that the players are the protagonists: "We have the responsibility to give them the most favourable environment so that the qualities can emerge and make the fans enjoy themselves".
Machín has commented that he arrives "with an enormous illusion and with the responsibility of leaving the team in the position it deserves". The manger from Soria has insisted that it is an "exciting" year to participate in three competitions but has made it clear that "the formula for success is to work and then get it. Machín has pointed out that it is a moment "to have a clear state of mind" and added that the fans are "a very important part of this club and we want them to enjoy".
The vice-president of the RCD Espanyol of Barcelona, Carlos García Pont, has welcomed Pablo Machín and has remarked that the new white-blue coach meets three basic conditions: "Humbleness, commitment and ambition". The club's professional football director, Francisco Joaquín Pérez Rufete, also said that the Club will help the coach so that everything goes well. Both Carlos García Pont and Rufete thanked David Gallego for his tremendous work performed these past months and wished him all the best in the future to come.
