"The defences have been stronger"
Quique Sánchez Flores explains that he tried to speed up the game with the changes
The blue and white coach, Quique Sánchez Flores, has said in the press conference after the game that two very similar teams faced each other and that the defences prevailed over the attacks. "We knew that we were facing a tough team, with a structure that resembles ours. Alavés is a team with two lines of four very hard and it is not easy. Whoever scored first, would take the match. At the break we agreed that the possession was sterile and that this was not going to work and we were not going to have opportunities. You had to change the physical speed and the ball speed. The two teams looked for the goal, but the defences were imposed”, said the blue and white coach Quique Sánchez Flores.
Sanchez Flores said that "we understand the fans and they are not happy, but we are at peace, we strive in every game that we play independently of the rival and defend the profession with dignity. Whether we like it or not, we respect the taste of the people. We will continue working to improve".
Finally, he remarked that the team has "more opportunities than last season, but we are less effective. We put the ball in the area more, but when you lose efficiency, it's complicated. The team was too comfortable in the possession without giving verticality, but in the second half we had more breadth of play, better individual game inside with Melendo, but without too clear shots".
