Sure of survival
Marc Roca says that if it’s crazy to believe that we’ll survive, then “all of us in the dressing room are crazy, and so are many of the fans”
The belief that survival is possible has taken hold in the dressing room. With only 19 matches left, the “blanquiazules” are clear that it won’t be an easy task, but they will do everything in their power to make it happen. If David López’ comments last week gave voice to this, Marc Roca has gone a step further. “If it’s crazy to believe that we’ll survive, then all of us in the dressing room are crazy and so are many of the fans. We believe”, the player said about the chances of avoiding relegation. He also insists that “there are two ways of looking at it: one is to say that we have 11 points but there are still lots of points to play for, and another is that we are four points off survival. We will fight ’til the end. We believe in ourselves and we’re convinced that we’ll succeed. With performances like the other day’s, together with the fans, it will be a lot easier”.
He said that the team “needed a performance like the other day’s”, because it created “a lot of optimism” and attested that David López is able to fit seamlessly into the midfield because “we understand each other very well. He is a leader on the pitch and he helps you a lot”.
He recognised that the club is doing everything it can “to help the team” but he pointed out “we have to lead the way as the players that are here now, that will be here for the whole season”.
He revealed that the game against Leganés, the last in 2019, “was a big blow for all of us”, whilst the game against Barcelona set the example to follow. “We have to approach each game exactly the same, with the same energy and the same desire. This way, we’ll be successful”.
Equally, he says that “it’s not been an easy first half of the season for us. We haven’t been able to play the way we wanted. We have suffered. We have had some tough afternoons and some difficult moment, but we will always work to give our utmost. We have to keep moving forward and trust in ourselves. In this second half of the season we want to put everything right and we will fight to be successful in that endeavour”.
