RCDE's Women's B team will play in the Reto Iberdrola (Second Professional Division)
The second team gets promoted after winning against Santander's CD Monte with two goals from Lidia and Ana
RCD Espanyol Women's B team played the third game of the promotion play-off for the Reto Iberdrola this Sunday morning.
The Espanyolista team went out all guns blazing from the start, thirsty for promotion. It took them just five minutes to score the first goal. After being passed the ball, Lidia Rubio put her team ahead with a perfect finish which pierced the Cantabrian squad.
Minutes after the light went on for Espanyol, the Parakeets scored their second, this time with a set piece. On her Saints Day, Ana Hernández scored from a direct free kick.
The centre-backs played quickly, putting great balls through over the top. The wingers dominated up front and the midfield fought for the ball before passing it through to the forwards.
The first half was dominated by Óscar Cobacho's team, getting to half time with a comfortably clear 0-2 margin.
After the break, it was clear that the players were suffering with the heat and fatigue. Despite not having possession, in the final stretch, Monte came back with a penalty goal from Pilar Mena. This gave the Cantabrians strength, sowing fear and uncertainty amongst the Blue and Whites.
In the final minutes, they seemed to lose total control of the game. Fouls, stops and changes were abundant in the second half, resulting in nine minutes of injury time being added to the clock.
Despite the suffering, the final result was positive. Our girls have been promoted and are in the Reto Iberdrola (Second Professional Division)!
