RCDE Stadium amongst proposed venues for 2030 World Cup
The ground is one of 11 shortlisted by the RFEF
The RCDE Stadium has been named on the list of 11 stadiums presented by the Royal Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) as a venue for the 2030 World Cup, which would be organised between the Spanish, Portuguese and Moroccan federations.
The stadium passed the cutoff established by the RFEF and is one of the grounds that could host matches for the 2030 World Cup, should FIFA end up giving its approval. The rest of the possible venues are: San Mamés, Anoeta, La Cartuja, Riazor, Nueva Romareda, Metropolitano, Gran Canaria, La Rosaleda, Santiago Bernabéu and the Camp Nou.
To define the venues, a series of scales and objective criteria have been applied, in line with what is established in the FIFA candidacy requirements. In total, these 11 stadiums have been defined, chosen in an evaluation that took into account aspects such as the technical project, operation, financial structure and endowment of the host cities, in addition to compliance with contractual requirements, as clarified by the RFEF in their statement.
Once the dossier has been presented, FIFA will confirm on December 11th, at its General Assembly, the joint candidacy of Morocco, Portugal and Spain. In a later phase, it will determine the venues that will be part of the competition definitively.
