Preseason win over UD Las Palmas
RCD Espanyol take a 2-1 triumph in Marbella
A victory and a good performance for RCD Espanyol kept the team's preseason on track, as they beat UD Las Palmas 2-1 with goals from Pol Lozano and Rubén Sánchez.
The game began with Pacheco making a save from Herrera, as Las Palmas played an attacking strategy and put the defence to the test. RCD Espanyol also showed a clear style, wanting to take over possession whenever possible.
There was concern in the early going when a Herzog tackle left Javi Puado unable to continue, calling for a substitution, and Sergi Darder would also receive medical attention as Las Palmas became more and more physical.
The clearest chance in the first half fell to Jofre, who gave problems to Escandell, and he also wasted a counterattack later on as he miscontrolled the ball on the break.
The second half started well for Espanyol. Jofre cut inside and was brought down for a clear penalty, which Edu Expósito stepped up to take. Unfortunately, whilst his shot sent the goalkeeper the wrong way, it was kept out by the woodwork.
The response from UD Las Palmas was immediate, with a very dangerous shot from Herrera that went wide. Espanyol subsequently pressed higher up the field, giving problems to their opponents when they attempted to bring the ball out.
Following a Calero shot off-target, Pol Lozano picked up a bad pass from the opposing team and ended up beating Vallés to open the scoring.
Espanyol had the game under control, but Las Palmas levelled thanks to a shot from Javi Muñoz. However, the reaction was spectacular: Rubén Sánchez, on the right wing, found the winner with a quality strike that put his team back in front.
